Keeping everyone up to speed on all the news fit to print

I wanted to update everyone on the progress of Anara, Athena, Teddy and Mary. It is a mix of positive steps forward and regression backwards. So here goes….

Anara’s Mom leaves tomorrow from Georgia enroute to New York to pick up her new daughter. Anara is healing from her spay and is still battling the original ear infection. Her microchip implanted at ACC was not present during the scan so another chip had to be inserted. Anara is tired of all the healing/down time and would like to have some play dates…. Three more days J  Patty will arrive Wed or Thursday and will stay and train with her new dog for approximately a week. She is going to absolutely fall head over heels for Anara. (Like THAT hasn’t happened already!)

Athena is waiting to meet Kyrie (Michelle’s german shepherd) to see how they get along. She has been working with Karla, Brooklyn and Natasha on her basic skills. She offers a lot of behaviors when she is at the facility and will be a really fun training experience for Michelle. She continues to work on her socialization skills and does great on a leash with other dogs. In a play setting, she continues to work on staying under threshold and being able to maintain her manners when playing with multiple dogs.

Teddy has made his peace with Patrick and myself. We can handle him, play with him, crate him, move him without any reactivity. He is awesome with other dogs. He is currently working on his housetraining. Karla, Brooklyn, Natasha, Zuzi , Juan and Tracy have been working on socializing with him. Karla, Brooklyn, and Natasha are using food to build a positive association. Tracy, Zuzi and Juan are using play and toys to build a positive association. Tracy successfully handled him tonight without issue (He mohawked once but initiated contact after that). Zuzi can play with him and handle him during play sessions. Another session with Zuzi and she will be able to successfully handle him. Teddy did not warm up to Juan, despite Juan’s attempt to play and use food as a reinforcer. Teddy seems to be more intimidated by Juan so we will have a little more work to do to change this to a positive association. Karla, Brooklyn and Natasha will continue to work with Teddy until he can be successfully handled by them.

Mary had a setback after she came off her antibiotics. She is no longer walking or running. She is having some major medical issues at the moment. Linda (Posh Pets) has spent a lot of time trying to figure out the best course of action for her. This week we will take the input from the vet in NYC, the input from Animal Doctors and the input we have from another valued vet  and try to come up with a plan of action. In the meantime, Tracy has been coming out to massage Mary. Mary literally smiles during her massages and it seems to make a huge difference in her physical and mental well being. She is back on antibiotics until we can figure out why she regressed. Patrick built her a stand so when she gains more strength she can be mobile without falling over.  Please keep Mary in your thoughts and prayers.
